A Guide to Plano Coffee Shops

1418 Coffeehouse

plano coffee shops

Near and dear to the heart of downtown, 1418 started out in 2013 with no name for itself and has since garnered recognition as not only one of the best coffee shops in Plano but also in the whole Dallas metro area. The attention to detail that has gone into designing this cafe with a perfect balance of vibrant sophistication, western charm, and utility makes it an easy go-to for daytime meetings with colleagues, long overdue coffee dates, or solo work sessions.

The picturesque decor serves as an accomplice to daringly innovative, rewardingly delicious coffee made from java beans that have been intimately roasted in-house. Seriously, the specialty drink menu will rock your world with creations such as the vanilla-hinted Purple Haze and white hot chocolate and cayenne pepper enriched Sgt. Pepper (kudos to those who understood the rock n’ roll references).

Mudleaf Coffee

Inspired by an exhaustive search for the perfect mobile coffee cart that ultimately came up empty-handed, the women behind this jewel decided to start catering events with their own, and just like so, Mudleaf was born! Their humble java operation on wheels has since blossomed into a spacious brick and mortar store featuring an attractive Bohemian vibe, high exposed ceilings, plush seating arrangements such as comfy couches and swinging woven chairs, artisan wooden slab tabletops, and countless books.

XO Coffee Company

Snuggled amidst the adorable storefronts lining downtown’s 15th Street is XO, an eye-catching standout thanks to its greyish exterior, pink accents, and typically decor-adorned windows. A step through the front door reveals exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, ample seating, the occasional touch of plant life, and trendy light fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

Their Espresso bar boasts best-in-class equipment that the talented team of baristas utilizes to make the finest lattes, cortados, cappuccinos, and pourovers – to name a few. Aside from handcrafting a wide variety of hot and iced drinks, XO also offers succulent, handcrafted, farm-to-table food options.

Coffee del Rey

A lovely hole-in-the-wall micro-roaster, what Coffee del Rey may lack in square footage, they sure do more than make up for with gourmet, diligently brewed java. Over the past 8 years, the folks behind this counter have made a name for themselves as coffee roasters who are quality-oriented and community-driven. They are partnered with the North Texas Food Bank and take pride in having a portion of all profits go right back into alleviating local hardships, moreover, they always aim to source coffee with farmers and their communities in mind as well.

Golden Boy Coffee & Wine Bar

Conveniently located in the Boardwalk – a fashionable development connecting an office park to casual eateries and bars with outdoor seating on a waterside boardwalk – Golden Boy showcases deep blue and gold walls accentuated by gorgeous artworks, trendy light fixtures, and posh seating. The sophisticated yet vibrant environment seamlessly transitions from cafe by day to wine bar come evening. Concerning the latter, their objective is to provide a wine list that curates the key varietals from the parts of the world that give the best expression of that particular grape, from winemakers that make it shine.

Black Rifle Coffee Company

A recent addition to the index of Plano coffee shops, Black Rifle is on pace to make an impression with coffee sourced directly from the growing powerhouses of the world. Whether it’s the rich, full body flavors of Guatemala or the bold and robust flavors of Brazil, each bean is hand-sorted with care and attention to detail, then shipped directly from their farm of origin to be roasted in-house, and ultimately makes its flavorful debut upon each tasty sip of your morning joe.

Founded in 2014 by former U.S. Army Green Beret Evan Hafer, Black Rifle was built upon a mission to serve coffee and culture to people who love America. Furthermore, it is a Veteran-owned business operated by principled men and women who honor those who protect, defend, and support our country.

An energetic drive-thru/walk-up coffee experience first launched in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2017, fun and happiness can best be described as primary drivers of the culture at 151, whilst upbeat music only naturally sets the tempo. Each of their drive-thru stores serves fantastic coffee and blended energy drinks faster than anyone. If you’re thirsty and looking for a tasty beverage to buzz your day, pull on up, say hello, and drive off grooving to golden 151 vibes perhaps most underscored by the timeless phrase, “it’s a good day to have a good day.”

Dunn Brothers Coffee

Dunn Brothers has a reliably warm atmosphere with speedy WiFi, plenty of tables, and a common area boasting comfortable chairs and banquette seating perfect for studying or relaxation. From strong and smooth java to blended frappes to signature drinks like the Raspberry White Mocha and Caramelized Almond Latte, there’s a little liquid delight for everybody here.

Dutch Bros. Coffee

Founded in Southern Oregon in 1992 by dairy farmer brothers Dane and Travis Boersma, Dutch Bros. Coffee is the country’s largest privately held, drive-thru coffee company. For those java purists bewildered that I could include as large a chain as Dutch on this list of Plano coffee shops, please remember, they’re not very common elsewhere in the United States, so for visitors or newcomers, this energy-rich oasis in the sun will undoubtedly prove a sweet treat.

From early mornings to late nights, some heavenly beverages you may spot being served out of their pull-up window include specialty coffee drinks, smoothies, freezes, teas, and Blue Rebel energy drinks that customers can infuse with their favorite flavors.

Every cup of Dutch Bros. coffee is handcrafted – roasted by hand in the Pacific Northwest, blended by hand, and then ground and pulled by hand, ristretto-style. One more observation worth noting, their employees are relentlessly kind, attentive, and cheerful, at all times, never failing to look like they’re having the moment of their lives while on shift; super fun vibes!

85oC Bakery

Conveniently situated just off Highway 75, 85oC Bakery specializes in fresh bread baked every hour, the store has over 60 different varieties of breads inspired by European, Asian, and Danish trades. When it comes to your morning fix, rest assured that every coffee is made with freshly ground espresso beans and shots are brewed to a perfect symphony.

The founder of this popular, ever-growing business, Mr. Cheng-Hsueh Wu visited a cafe in a 5-star hotel back in 2003 and while treating himself to some gourmet pastries and drinks, he realized that the prices were set way too high for people to enjoy on a whim. From that moment, Mr. Wu has envisioned a shop that provides premium coffee, bread, and cake at affordable prices.
