The interior of this stunning red brick building boasts ample wooden furnishings, speedy WiFi, high ceilings, the occasional live performance, and an art gallery showcasing the talents and creative expressions of local artists.
While a superior environment for productivity would be difficult to imagine, aside from optimum functionality, the attention to detail that has gone into designing this cafe with a perfect balance of charm and utility makes it an easy go-to for daytime meetings with colleagues, long overdue coffee dates, or solo work sessions.
McKinney Coffee Company
A family-run establishment just across the street from La Cima Lake, McKinney Coffee Company has a warm and comfortable ambiance underscored by premium ground coffee, artisan beverages (including cocktails), and beans available for purchase. They source ingredients locally where possible and handcraft delicious syrups in-house.
Don’t miss out on the food either, McKinney Coffee Company serves an array of breakfast and brunch options like egg sandwiches, breakfast tacos, fried chicken and waffles, as well as sweet treats, such as scones, cookies, and mini bundt cakes. Lunch fare includes the full menu from their next-door neighbor and partner, E.J. Wills Gastropub.
Wattage Coffee Company
Started by the same folks who have been operating Cadence Cyclery since 2011 and tucked away inside their bike store, Wattage certainly qualifies as a hidden gem among downtown McKinney coffee shops. They serve Fort-Worth-based Avoca coffee in a cute little European-style setting that only naturally showcases nostalgia-producing trinkets and jerseys related to cycling culture. Aside from the several seating arrangements on the ground floor, an easy trek upstairs reveals a loft area with exposed brick walls, even more tables, and a pretty sweet study environment.
Layered

Where coffee made from beans roasted in-house meets exceptional made from scratch kitchen and family recipes, Layered maintains a modern vibe accentuated by exposed brick walls, trendy light fixtures, and comfy seating arrangements.
Their upscale cooking features innovative takes on the familiar breakfast and lunch dishes we all crave – not to mention, a flavorful vegan hash is available as well. Bingo, this is where you can find fluffy waffles and pancakes drizzled with berries and syrup, plates are packed end to end with all the usual fixings, and refreshing fruit juices compliment hard-earned brunch mimosas.
Habitat Plants + Coffee
A coffee shop snuggled within an adorable downtown plant shop, aside from fresh locally roasted java, Habitat specializes in carrying houseplants, including a variety of indoor foliage, as well as cute pots and small plant accessories.
TexaKona Coffee Roasters

Although their name is listed as Pacific Tradewinds Coffee on Yelp, let’s make one thing clear, it’s really TexaKona Coffee Roasters and you may have just stumbled across one of the best-kept secrets in town.
Fun fact of the day, Kona coffee trees thrive on the rich volcanic soil and humid climate of Hawaii’s big island, it’s the one-of-a-kind tropical ecosystem there that produces java beans savored by coffee connoisseurs the world over.
In a nod to the spirit and flavor of Hawaii, the team here ships intimately sourced Kona coffee to their facility in McKinney, roasts the beans, blends them with beans from other countries (ie. a Kenya/Kona blend known as Swahili Sixgun), and then packages them so you can enjoy fresh, local, and distinctly delicious coffee upon every satisfying sip of your morning cup of joe!
Magic Cup

Magic Cup is a bright, clean, and, relaxed hangout with ample seating, speedy WiFi, and friendly service; the staff similarly maintains a delectable selection of fresh fruit fusion teas, milk teas, boba teas, nutrient-packed smoothies, frappes, and espresso-based coffee beverages. Their coffee beans are locally roasted in Dallas with a top-of-the-line Probat 1969 UG-22 roaster. The espresso is sure to kickstart your morning with a blend of sweetness and acidity, rock sugar aroma, and milk chocolate finish.
Honi’s Coffee House
Located inside Brookhaven church, Honi’s is a non-profit serving specialty Honduran coffee and tea to support la Finca orphanage in Valle de Angeles, Honduras. The beloved folks behind this quaint java operation with a cause also strive to impact their surrounding community by creating employment opportunity, serving the local schools, and supporting the homeless. That’s not to mention the insanely cool vintage Volkswagen turned mobile coffee shop they got parked out front – it’s perfect for birthday parties and corporate events!
Dutch Bros. Coffee
Founded in Southern Oregon in 1992 by dairy farmer brothers Dane and Travis Boersma, Dutch Bros. Coffee is the country’s largest privately held, drive-thru coffee company. For those java purists bewildered that I could include as large a chain as Dutch on this list of McKinney coffee shops, please remember, they’re not very common elsewhere in the United States, so for visitors or newcomers, this energy-rich oasis in the sun will undoubtedly prove a sweet treat.
From early mornings to late nights, some heavenly beverages you may spot being served out of their pull-up window include specialty coffee drinks, smoothies, freezes, teas, and Blue Rebel energy drinks that customers can infuse with their favorite flavors.
Every cup of Dutch Bros. coffee is handcrafted – roasted by hand in the Pacific Northwest, blended by hand, and then ground and pulled by hand, ristretto-style. One more observation worth noting, their employees are relentlessly kind, attentive, and cheerful, at all times, never failing to look like they’re having the moment of their lives while on shift; super fun vibes!
